Anti-gay law: Gay Nigerians flood Netherlands embassy seeking asylum

Posted on Updated on

Choi, some Nigerians like to take advantage sha! Lol. The Embassy of the Netherlands in Nigeria has confirmed that it has received some applications for asylum by some Nigerians who fear persecution following the recent signing into law the anti-gay bill by President Jonathan, Thisday reports.

Netherlands is a gay-friendly country. The embassy sent an email to Thisday some days ago saying that despite receiving these applications, it was neither involved in processing any application for asylum seekers nor does it have the power to grant asylum to applicants.

“The embassy has received a small number of applications for asylum by Nigerians. It is not possible to apply for asylum at the embassy. We inform the applicants likewise but we do not register the number of applications made. At this stage, it is not possible to make predictions. That would be speculation. However, when people become increasingly aware that it is not possible to apply for asylum at the embassy, one could expect a decrease. The embassy is not involved in the asylum process, neither in the application nor in the determination of the authenticity of claims.”

18-year-old Girl Kills Herself After Her Boyfriend Dumped Her (PICTURED)

A teenager killed herself by deliberately walking onto a motorway after being dumped by her “controlling” boyfriend, an inquest heard.

Lena Begum, 18, died of multiple serious after being hit by a van on the M65, in Lancashire in April last year. One of the dental student’s friends told Burnley Coroner’s Court she was “mentally obsessed” with Quzlam Ahmed, who she met in hospital, despite his “history of violence”.

Lena been treated for self-harming after carving his nickname, Kammy, into her arm.
The troubled teen was struck while crossing the eastbound slip-road towards Gannow, at junction 10, at around 3.50am on April 10 last year.

A post-mortem examination showed Lena, from Brierfield, in Lancashire, died “rapidly” from multiple serious injuries including fractures to her neck, skull, spine and ribs.
East Lancashire’s assistant coroner, Mark Williams, said she was known to police after being reported missing a number of times and had previously been placed in local authority care.

She had started a relationship with Mr Ahmed after meeting him at a hospital placement in Bradford in October 2012.

In January 2013 she was asked to leave the facility following breaches of rules including drinking and later the same month, she was treated for self-harming after Mr Ahmed said he no longer wanted to be her boyfriend.

Giving evidence, Taslema Alom, who was with Lena the morning of her death, said: “I think she was mentally obsessed with him (Mr Ahmed).

“She would go and meet him whenever he called. I kept telling her to stop seeing him. Before she met Kammy she was happy and fun to be with.

“After she got with him, she changed. It was like he controlled her. I seen him punch her on one occasion, at the time of her 18th birthday.”

Miss Alom said Lena had previously mentioned taking her own life.

“I didn’t believe that she would do it,” she said.

The night before she died, Lena, who was studying as a dental nurse at Blackburn College, had been at a friend’s house and visited a shisha bar before asking to be dropped off near the M65 at around 1.30am.

Recalling the last time she saw her, another friend, Marcia Khan, said: “Everything was fine. She was normal. She turned around and she smiled.”

Police officers explained that between midnight and her death, 16 calls were made between Lena’s phone and her mother’s.

She also had two conversations totalling 30 minutes with Mr Ahmed, who was in Blackburn at the time, and recorded a voicemail message.

PC Richard Roberts, an accident investigator, said Lena would have been able to see the Mercedes Sprinter approaching her for “more than 10 seconds” and that there was “no obvious reason for pedestrians to attempt to cross the road there”.

Asked if street lighting on the M65 would have allowed the driver to have seen the teenager earlier, PC Roberts replied: “Potentially, yes.”

Absolving van driver John Trainor of any blame, he added: “By the time she was illuminated, he (Mr Trainor) would not have had time to slow down.”

He said that Mr Trainor, who was travelling at 59mph, would have been as close as 35 metres to Lena before he could see her.

Concluding that Lena had taken her own life, Mr Williams said her relationship with Mr Ahmed ‘does not appear to have been very good for her well-being.”

He added: “It is quite clear that before 4am she walked across the path of a Mercedes van driven by Mr Trainor.

“There was nothing Mr Trainor could do.”

I Cannot Be Compared To Asari Dokubu– Mallam Nasir El-Rufai

Posted on

The Deputy National Secretary for the All Peoples Congress party (APC), Mallam Nasir El Rufai said that he cannot be compared to Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubu. He made the charge over the weekend on SaharaTV’s weekly broadcast.

El-Rufai, while explaining what took place during his recent detainment by the Nigerian Department of State Services (DSS), said “Asari Dokubu is a thug. I do not compare myself with thugs. I have never taken arms against a state. I have never stolen crude oil. I have never been called a militant. I’m a normal human being like every other Nigerian.”

On Thursday, after pressure from the All Progressive Congress Party, the Nigerian Department of State Services detained, ex-Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubu for questioning over “inflammatory comments.” He was later released.

In 2013, Asari  Dokubu made public comments on Channels TV suggesting that if President Goodluck Jonathan didn’t win he 2015 elections Nigerians should expect bloodshed.

In response to the ongoing tumultuous political environment between Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic (PDP) and APC parties, the Nigerian DSS earlier this year warned Nigerians to avoid inflammatory comments ahead of the 2015 Presidential elections scheduled for Feb. 15.

According to El-Rufai, during his detainment the SSS questioned him on his remarks made regarding the 2015 elections.

“I made a statement at a conference that we expect the 2015 elections to be free and fair and better organized than the travesty we saw in Anambra and Delta state recently, he told SaharaTV’s Rudolf Okonkwo. He also expressed that he would repeat the same statement again anytime.

He also reminded Nigerians of the existence of President Goodluck Jonathan’s controversial “watch list”, popularly referred to as the sniper list.

El-Rufai, a vocal critic of the Jonathan administration went further and expressed his displeasure with the upcoming National Conference describing it as a waste of resources set up to lure attention away from Nigeria’s real problem.

“The whole reason behind the conference is to divert attention of the failures of the sitting government,” he said.

Two women jailed for trafficking &making children beg with fake wounds

Posted on Updated on

The two women were arrested at Ajose Adeogun Street, Victoria Island recently while begging with two kids, aged six and nine years. The stomach and legs of the kids were plastered with ointment and wool to give the impression that they were suffering from serious burns to attract public sympathy.

An Environmentalist, Betty Albert, was driving by and saw the gory sight of the nine-year old boy lying on the ground and decided to assist the victim.

She parked her car and came out and told Chioma that she should be allowed to take the boy to the hospital. On hearing this, Chioma asked the boy to run away which he did, but unfortunately, he was caught by a policeman who was on duty nearby.

The Environmentalist asked the policeman to chase after the boy and he was caught and brought back to the scene.

“I asked the boy whether something was wrong with him and he said he was okay. I asked him whether I could remove the plasters and wool on his stomach and he said yes. So I removed them and found out that the boy was alright.

“The boy told me that his younger brother was at Eko Hotel with another woman also begging for alms and that they should help him to get the boy. The boy was brought with the other woman,” Betty explained.
The boy’s leg was also plastered with ointment and wool to deceive people that he had been badly burnt and needed help.
Investigation revealed that Chioma Eze, from Anambra State, had gone to Awka and told the children’s parents that she wanted to assist them send the children to school in Lagos and she was allowed to take them. But unknown to the parents, their children were brought to beg for alms in Lagos.
Betty had been following the case or almost two weeks to ensure justice was done.
The women were arrested by police from Bar Beach Police Station, while the case was later transferred to Adeniji Adele Police Station.

The case was again transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba where it was charged to court on Wednesday.

According to Betty, the in-law of one of the women had been threatening her life because of the way she had pursued the case, alleging that the in-law to Chioma said he had marked her face and would ensure that she was eliminated.

The Lagos State Office of Youth and Social Department has been following the case and has expressed disgust at the way the children were ill-treated by the women.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Social Development, Dr. Dolapo Badru, said it is lamentable that Anambra State had continued to be a place where people were brought to Lagos to beg for alms.

“How can these women be so callous to have brought these children from Anambra State to beg for alms in Lagos? They even make the children feign injury and they don’t have homes in Lagos and now they will say we are deporting their people. What we are saying is that these are things the public won’t know,” he stated.
He said Lagos “would not tolerate a situation where Anambra State would continue to infest the state with beggars and later cry wolf that we are deporting people that
have no homes to stay in the state.”

The women, Amarachi Eke from Imo State and Chioma Eze from Awka in Anambra State, sourtheast Nigeria, were arraigned at the court on Wednesday on a two-count charge of using underaged children to beg for alms. And they pleaded guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Y.O. Aje-Afunwa sentenced them to two months imprisonment each; one month for each count charge and they are also to pay a fine of N5,000. The jail terms will run concurrently.
